Why Do I Need a NFA Tax Stamp?
A NFA Tax Stamp is required for you to legally purchase all Title II NFA Weapons the legal classification for NFA restricted items such as suppressors, short barreled rifles (SBR), short barreled shotguns, fully automatic pre-1986 firearms and more. A NFA Gun Trust is an option that provides additional benefits such as sharing NFA items with family members and friends listed on the trust.

What are the Requirements to get a NFA Tax Stamp?
- Be a resident of a state where suppressors are legal
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be a United States resident
- Be legally allowed to purchase a firearm (Non Prohibited Person)
- Pass an ATF background check
- Pay a one time tax of $200
- Ensure your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) gets a copy of your ATF Form 4
What is a Prohibited Person?
The following persons generally won’t qualify for an NFA tax stamp:
- Anyone convicted of a misdemeanor or crime of domestic violence
- Convicted of a felony or any other crime punishable by a term exceeding one year
- Considered a fugitive from justice
- Addicted to any controlled drug or substance
- Has been judged mentally defective or been committed to a mental institution
- Has a dishonorable discharge from the armed forces of the US
- Has renounced citizenship in the US
- Is an illegal alien
- Anyone under indictment for a federal, state, or local felony
If the BATF finds that you are a prohibited person, you can expect an automatic rejection and you’ll not be able to receive a NFA Tax Stamp. If the application is rejected the purchase is subject to the Total Armor Return Policy.
When Will I Receive My NFA Restricted Item?
- After you verify you meet the requirements and purchase your NFA Restricted Item you will receive the information to complete ATF Form 4 and instructions to help you complete the process.
- Total Armor will keep possession of the item until you have received your approved ATF Form 4 at which time you will be able to begin the process of transferring the item.
Processing applications for NFA tax stamps can take months. The BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) performs a thorough background check on each applicant for an NFA tax stamp. There is also often a backlog of applications waiting to be processed, which is why this can take a while.
